Moving your Body, a Physical Activity for older adults

Through Movement there are endless possibilities for a joyful life!

Ageing with Grace is a special session suitable for adults and older people of all abilities. The sessions
are adaptable for adults across the spectrum of physical and cognitive abilities. It is about sensing
mobility with dance movements and bringing joy into your body, sensing pleasure and sooth pain.
It’s a blend of movements that are done standing, moving across the room, some sessions
incorporates seating to tailored participants needs.
The program is applicable to Community groups, adaptable to Retirement Village, Residential Visit
and Allied health, as part of multidisciplinary health team in benefit of the participant, as it uses
DMT and each session its tailored to suit participants

Sensing Joy connecting with others

The program fosters a caring atmosphere of physical and psychological safety, which participants
maintain their send of worth, feeling of belonging, support and an opportunity to be connected with
others for social interaction mutual support and exchange.

Sensing ease – a Physical benefit

Dancing and moving at their own pace, moving at their own rhythm with guided and free flow
movements, being stimulated with poetry, song and music. An opportunity to release tension, bring
joint mobility, flexibility and balance.

Sensing freedom –Emotional release

Using various movements for brain stimulation that helps with focus, memory retention, body-
coordination, bringing and working on individual capacity to response and adapt with movements
that are natural to self, creating an organic flow as there is not a right or wrong in the move.

What to expect in a Community Class

Each class embraces breathing exercises followed by a warm up, a dynamic moves and flow
movement, movements for balance, strengthening, flexibility, coordination and brain stimulation,
opportunity for fun connection, and centrering with a nice cool down and relaxation followed by a
guided mindful moment leaving you energised.

Moving Your Body Session support those recovering from illness or injury; chronic pain
management; Women’s health issues inc. Post cancer survival, Arthritis, MS, and Parkinson’s’.

For Retirement Village residents sessions are adapted using Dance Movement Therapy and
principles of Ageing with Grace. These sessions involves individual and group dynamics.
